With the opening of the first Batteries Plus retail store in 1988 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Batteries Plus was the first organization to respond to the evolving needs of the replacement battery market. The company began franchising in 1992, with the first franchise-owned store opening in Fort Wayne, IN. The increasing demand for “specialty” and replacement batteries, combined with the company’s reputation for solving battery problems and providing helpful advice, led to rapid success and nationwide expansion.
In 2010, Batteries Plus refined its all-battery franchise concept, adding light bulbs as a product line. In 2014, the company launched smartphone and tablet repair services, providing in-store repairs for cracked screens and battery replacements. Since 2018, the company has added key fob programming and replacement, key cutting and smart home options to its offerings.
