At NPPGov, we connect public agencies and education institutions with cooperative contracts that deliver measurable value. Through our partnership with Sherwin-Williams, members gain access to high-performance coatings such as Uniflex® fluid applied roof systems that can dramatically reduce project costs.
Uniflex solutions are designed to protect roofs and help extend the building’s life. With up to 90% reflectivity, surface temperatures are reduced, resulting in decreased cooling costs and energy savings.
The case study below highlights how a Memphis school system leveraged this Sherwin-Williams solution to achieve major savings on a roofing project.
Case Study: An A+ solution for Memphis Schools
Managing facility budgets while incorporating cost effective roofing solutions is not an easy task. Realizing the need to address ongoing roof leaks and the associated problems caused by a leaky roof, the district reviewed several roofing options. Upon review, a bidding process was established which allowed contractors to provide alternate bids for a TPO Single Ply or a Fluid Applied Roofing System.
The contractor who provided the bid incorporating the Sherwin-Williams Uniflex Silicone44 System won the contract due to their experience and the cost-effective solution provided for this 200,000 square foot facility.
TPO reroof $3.7 million vs. Uniflex $846,372 = $2.8 million+ savings
As part of the Uniflex Specification, the first step in the process is to conduct a moisture scan to identify any wet insulation. Core cuts were performed in the areas where anomalies were indicated by the drone scan to verify areas of the roof were wet. Approximately 10% of the existing ISO (Polyisocyanurate Insulation) was saturated and had to be replaced with new insulation. The insulation replacement came at an extra cost to the school system however, they ultimately realized the value in how thorough the Uniflex process is and the need to properly prep a roof before the application of the coatings system takes place. The Sherwin-Williams/Uniflex Sales team worked closely with the Uniflex Technical Representative the contractor and the School District every step of the way! Ultimately a successful project at a substantial cost savings for the school district!
Conclusion
By utilizing a Uniflex roofing system from Sherwin-Williams, this project demonstrates how NPPGov members can move beyond traditional approaches and realize substantial cost efficiencies.
Uniflex roofing systems represent a new approach to resealing roofs, offering exceptional durability and weather resistance. The products enable waterproofing and reduced roof temperatures without requiring a full tear-off of the existing roof. Because installation does not require building closure, operations can continue uninterrupted, and building owners may benefit from lower utility costs along with potential tax incentives.
